Dr. H. Scott Hurd (ISU '82) became deputy undersecretary for food safety at the Department of Agriculture in mid-February. Most recently, he was an epidemiologist at the Iowa State University College of Veterinary Medicine. In 2007, he became a U.S. delegate to the Codex Alimentarius Intergovernmental Task Force on Antimicrobial Resistance. Previously, he worked for the USDA Agricultural Research Service and USDA Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service.

Dr. Robert Playter
Dr. Robert Playter

Dr. Robert Playter (KSU '61) has received a 2008 Alumni Recognition Award from the Kansas State University College of Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Playter retired in 1999 from Texas A&M University as a veterinary educator and administrator who specialized in ophthalmology. He spent a number of years as director of the veterinary teaching hospital at Cornell University. Previously, he operated a mixed animal practice in Hays, Kan. He served in the Army from 1955-1957.
