Approved animal drugs to increase under new law
President Bush signed into law Aug. 2 legislation that will increase the number of approved animal drugs for species and ailments for which treatment options have traditionally been limited. [more]

 

Medicated milk replacers can cause illegal residues in veal calves
The Food and Drug Administration has seen a dramatic increase in the number of neomycin residue violations in bob veal calves. [more]

 

Sweetener xylitol can be toxic to dogs
The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals' Animal Poison Control Center is warning veterinarians, their staff, and pet owners that the xylitol—a sweetener found in some sugar-free chewing gums, candies, and other products can cause serious—possibly life-threatening problems for dogs.
