Pet's death rekindles electronic ID debate
Lisa Massey knew little about the electronic microchip her local Banfield, The Pet Hospital, implanted in Hadden, Massey's 8-month-old American Pit Bull Terrier. Like other pet owners who opt for the added precaution of microchipping a pet, Massey found a measure of comfort knowing that the rice-size chip increased her chances of being reunited with Hadden, were he to become lost. Vesicular stomatitis confirmed in Texas horses
On May 18, the National Veterinary Services Laboratories in Ames, Iowa, confirmed three cases of vesicular stomatitis in a herd of horses in west Texas. It is the first vesicular stomatitis outbreak in the United States since 1998. [more] |

Backlog of DEA renewal applications causes problems
The Drug Enforcement Administration's Office of Diversion Control has a temporary backlog in processing renewal applications for registration under the Controlled Substance Act of 1970, Form 224A. Veterinarians are among the health practitioners affected. [more] |
