AVMA Web site login help

Welcome to the AVMA Web site. Certain areas of the AVMA Web site are restricted to AVMA Members only. These areas are indicated by a small key icon AVMA Member area after the link. AVMA Members can access restricted areas by entering their AVMA Member ID and their Password.

If you are an AVMA Member and are having difficulty logging in to the Web site, please try using the following troubleshooting tips below:

  • Make sure you are going to the AVMA Web site via URL http://www.avma.org and not http://avma.org
  • We use cookies to verify your login information so this feature must be enabled.
  • Clear your cache to make sure you have room to load the latest version of our login page.
  • Click on the "refresh" button on the browser after making any adjustments to your settings or clearing the cache.
  • Check to make sure that your system and browser meet our recommended requirements.
  • If you receive automatic updates from any antivirus, ad-blocking software, or even your Internet Service Provider (ISP), reboot your computer to make sure those automatic updates take place before you try to go online.
  • Make sure you are "logged out" of other Web site's that you have previously visited.
  • You should be able to access our site via most ISPs. However we are not familiar with each individual ISP's software so you may need to contact them if they have provided additional software that blocks cookies with their browser.
  • We have .PDF files on our Web site that require the use of Adobe Acrobat Reader software to open. If you are having trouble opening a .PDF file on our site, please go to the Adobe Web site to download the latest version of the Adobe Acrobat Reader software for free.

There are some restricted areas on the AVMA Web site that require different log in criteria. Please follow the links below to obtain a brief description and additional information about logging in to those areas.
AVMA Journals Online
The AVMA Journals Online include the "American Journal of Veterinary Research" (AJVR) and the "Journal of the American Veterinary Medical Association" (JAVMA).

If you have a subscription to an AVMA journal then you will be able to view that subscription online. To view the subscription, register online on your first visit to the journal area. You will be required to select a Username and Password when you register. This will enable you to log in to view your journal subscription.

Please be aware that the Username and Password you select to view the journal subscription online is not meant to replace your existing AVMA Member ID and Password information. You will still use your AVMA Member ID and Password to log in to other Member areas of the AVMA Web site.

If have problems accessing the online journals, do not remember your Username or Password, or need to change your login information for either AJVR or JAVMA online after registering in that area, please contact avmajournals@avma.org or call our Publications Division directly at 1-847-925-8070 x6770.

At present, there is no format online to renew your journal subscription. If you need to speak with someone in regard to renewing your journal subscription, lost issues, or subscription address changes, please call our Membership Division at 1-847-925-8070 x6631.

Cookies
In order for the AVMA Member ID and Password to be verified, your computer will need to be set up to accept cookies.

A cookie is a small text file sent by a Web server to a Web browser to be read back from that browser. Cookies are a way to have the browser "remember" specific bits of information. Make sure your browser is set up to accept cookies as we use them to verify your AVMA Member ID and Password when you login. Note: The information stored within a cookie can be read only by the Web server that originally sent the cookie. Web servers cannot read cookies sent by other Web servers.

If you have set up your browser to accept cookies but are still having trouble logging in, you may also need to check the cookie settings on any antivirus, ad-blocking, or firewall software.

If your computer is networked to other computers, check with your IT department to let them know you are attempting to access a site that communicates via cookies so they can make adjustments to their security settings on the network firewall.

Member ID
An AVMA Member ID number consists of five to nine digits and is found on your AVMA membership card and/or your journal (JAVMA or AJVR) address label.

You do not need to enter the zeros preceding the Member ID number. More than one number will appear on your journal mailing label; one is your Member ID number and the other is the date of the publication.

Please enter your AVMA Member ID number carefully. If you receive an online message back after a failed login attempt that states "your ID is okay, but your password is incorrect" then also double check to make sure you have entered the AVMA Member ID correctly.

Password
Please try your last name as the password. Your password is case sensitive, so the first letter and any other letters you would normally capitalize in your last name will be upper case. The rest of the letters will be lower case and have no space and no hyphens between letters.
For example,
if your last name is Smith, your password will be Smith
if your last name is Smith-Jones, your password will be SmithJones

If you have changed your last name, your password may be your maiden, or previous last name.

You may need to disable the automatic password entry feature on your browser. Select "Tools" from the browser toolbar. Select "Internet Options". Click on the "Content" tab. Select "Auto Complete" under Personal Information. Uncheck the "User names and passwords on forms" box. Save this setting and then close and reopen your browser before attempting to login.

If you do not remember or need to change your password for the Member areas of the AVMA Web site, please contact us at avmaonline@avma.org or by calling us directly at 1-847-925-8070 x6611.

When contacting us via e-mail, be sure to include your full name and address so we can locate your account to be able to help you with your password.

Please be sure to type the words "login help" or "AVMA Web site login help" in the subject line of your e-mail so we can provide quick service back to you.

If you have problems accessing, do not remember your Username or Password, or need to change your login information for either AJVR or JAVMA online after registering in that area, please contact avmajournals@avma.org or call our Publications Division directly at 1-847-925-8070 x6770.

We do not offer 24-hour password assistance so we strongly suggest that you write down your login information and keep it in a safe place. We are currently available to help you with your login information during our normal business hours Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. until 4:45 p.m. We will make every effort to return your phone call or e-mail as we are available.

Veterinary Career Center (VCC)
The AVMA has been serving the veterinary profession about as long as there have been veterinarians (since 1863, for you trivia buffs) and we have been helping veterinary employers and job seekers find each other for over 15 years. Now the AVMA Veterinary Career Center (VCC) brings employers and job seekers the best searching and matching experience available.

Searching online in the VCC for available jobs is a feature that can be accessed by both AVMA Members and the general public. Other features of the VCC are available only to AVMA or SAVMA Members and will require the Member to login with their AVMA Member ID number and Password. There are additional areas and features that will only be accessible after registering and creating an account online within the VCC area. Once an account is established there may be additional login criteria given for that particular feature of the VCC so you can return at a later date to update your information.

Each of the features provided in the VCC have detailed online instructions to help you navigate through searching, posting a new job or resume, and updating your existing account information. If you have additional questions regarding the VCC you may contact the AVMA Membership & Field Services Division at 847-925-8070 x6631 or vetcareers@avma.org, and someone will be happy to help you further.

Volunteer Leadership Area (VLA)
The Volunteer Leadership Area (VLA) is a private, secure area created to support the exchange of information among Members of the AVMA House of Delegates, Executive Board, councils, committees, and trusts. Here you will find resources and information for your entity (e.g., council, committee, trust, task force) such as official rosters, minutes, and entity descriptions.

If you are a current Member of an AVMA council and/or committee you will be able to access the VLA by using your AVMA Member ID number and Password. If you are a recent AVMA council and/or committee Member or have never attempted to login to the VLA area and find you are unable to do so, please contact the AVMA Staff Consultant responsible for your council and/or committee. They will enter the necessary information on your AVMA record so you will have access to the VLA.

Once you have obtained access to the VLA area you will be able to view each council and/or committee's entity description, roster, and minutes pages from the VLA home page. Access to each council and/or committee's "Member area" (linked from each council and/or committee on the VLA home page) is restricted to only those Members currently on that committee.
