AAZV launches volunteer database for Deepwater Horizon disaster response
May 24, 2010
The American Association of Zoo Veterinarians (AAZV) has established a database of people who would like to volunteer their services for the Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill Disaster in the Gulf of Mexico. Those interested in volunteering are asked to register and provide information about their interests, availability and expertise to allow the agencies involved to recruit people based on their needs. Biologists, zoologists, veterinarians, veterinary technicians, and others with wildlife interest and expertise are invited to register at http://www.aazv.org/displayconvention.cfm?conventionnbr=8616. There is no fee for registering.
The information contained in this database will be made available only to agencies that are involved in the clean up, and only when requested by them. The AAZV will not use the database for any other purpose.
There are no guarantees that people registering on the database will be called.
The AAZV and AVMA warn people not to self deploy, but to work with groups within the established chain of command for the response effort.
