Network of Animal Health (NOAH)

AVMA NOAH discussion groups are the place to ask questions, share experiences, pick up a quick tip, or just browse through the discussion group messages. You can use the groups to exchange diagnosis and treatment information, consult with board-certified specialists, and help each other with issues that impact your daily life, in a secure and friendly community environment. The easy-to-use format lets you access the discussion groups right from your Web browser or participate using your personal electronic mail program. No extra set up required!

The following are brief descriptions of the AVMA discussion groups. We encourage ideas for new discussion groups and/or questions about current groups. Case presentations, research, ideas, and questions are also welcome.

Discussion groups

Alternative/ Complementary Therapy

Diagnostic and treatment modalities such as: holistic medicine, homeopathy, acupuncture, environmental medicine, chiropractic medicine, laser therapy, magnetic, aroma, massage, and other physical therapy.

Aquatic Animal Medicine

Medicine, surgery and husbandry for aquatic animal species.

AVMA Convention SEATTLE

An open forum for discussion about the 2009 AVMA Convention in Seattle, Washington.

Behavior

Animal behavior and welfare issues, including etiology, diagnosis, therapy, prevention, and control of behavior problems.

Canine Medicine & Surgery

Medicine, surgery, and husbandry for dogs.

Careers in Veterinary Medicine

Discussion for everyone on job search and career transition. Support for this group will also be provided by the Center for Public and Corporate Veterinary Medicine at the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine (VMRCVM).

Computers/Tech Support

Use of computer hardware and software in vet. medicine (e.g., medical records, financial management, computer assisted instruction, distance learning, e-mail, the Internet).

Dentistry

Includes: oral cavity, oral anatomy, periodontics, orthodontics, endodontics, restoratives, maxillofacial surgery, oral radiology, dental equipment.

Dermatology

Pathogenesis, diagnosis, therapy, prevention and control of diseases directly or indirectly affecting the skin of animals, allergic diseases involving the skin and ears.

Diversity Issues

An open forum for discussion about diversity issues and methods to improve inclusion.

Equine Medicine & Surgery

Medicine, surgery, and husbandry for both performance and pleasure horses.

Exotics/Avian/Wildlife

Medicine, surgery, and husbandry for small mammals, reptiles, amphibians, and other non-traditional pets.

Feline Medicine & Surgery

Medicine, surgery, and husbandry for cats.

Food Animal Medicine & Surgery

Medicine, surgery, and husbandry for beef and dairy cattle, swine, poultry, and other food animals, including llamas, herd health and production medicine.

Funny Bone

Friendly jokes, top 10 lists, stories, and other online fun!

General/Round Table

An open forum for members to ask questions, share opinions and discuss topics of their choice. Topics could include economics, sociological, or political issues.

Life/Work Balance and Wellness

For sharing of ideas and experiences about life issues that impact the professional lives of veterinarians. Topics include: balancing work and family; coping with illness; etc.

Neurology/ Neurosurgery

Diagnosis and treatment of medical and surgical disorders of the nervous system.

Oncology

Diagnosis of medical, surgical, and chemotherapeutic, and thermal management of oncologic conditions (tumors - benign or malignant).

Ophthalmology
Clinical problems involving both medical and surgical management of the eye and the adnexa in any species of animal. For example, ophthalmic examination and procedures, such as cataracts, blindness, glaucoma, and when to seek a referral to a specialist.

Pharmacology/Anesthesiology/Toxicology

Therapeutic drugs and biologicals, contraindications, dosage, administration, and storage.

Practice Management/Legal Topics

Broad range of management issues including client patient relationships, professional development, sales and marketing, financial management, etc.
