- The veterinary profession needs you. As the AVMA responds to a
report by the Pew Commission on Industrial Farm Animal Production,
please help us advocate on behalf of veterinarians – and the
safety of our food animals and food supply – by asking Congress to
vote “No” on the Preservation of Antibiotics for Medical Treatment
Act.
- Each state has its own veterinary workforce needs, and newly
introduced legislation called the Veterinarian Services Investment
Act is designed to help your state address its specific
requirements.
- Looking for tips and knowledge on how to enhance your impact
with legislators and regulatory agencies? You won’t want to miss
the AVMA State Public Policy Symposium in Tampa, Fla., Nov. 7-8.
Registration is now open.
- The AVMA invites those new to their state or allied VMA
executive director posts, as well as those who have yet to attend
one of our Executive Director Orientation programs, to sign up now
for the 2009 program Oct 15-16 at association headquarters outside
Chicago, Ill.
- From the farm to the family home, 2009 has been a busy
legislative year. The AVMA has tracked more than 1,200 bills this
year, many of which have been signed into law. This report
highlights the most important state legislative and regulatory
measures that were passed or introduced so far in 2009.
- This month’s State Legislative Update is chock-full of recent
developments in the land of legislation and rules affecting states
and veterinarians, including a major legislative victory in
California that ensures statewide uniformity of standards for
medical professionals.

AVMA responds to Pew
Commission Report on Industrial Farm Animal
Production |
The
AVMA has been working for the past several months to develop a
response to the Final Report of the Pew Commission on Industrial
Farm Animal Production. We felt it was imperative to respond to
the Pew report due to Pew's widely publicized findings and
recommendations, which are being used to advocate for the passage of
H.R. 1549 and S. 619, Preservation of Antibiotics for Medical Treatment Act
(PAMTA), which the AVMA does not
support. [ more]
