The Unwanted Horse and Horse Slaughter

'Unwanted horses' represent a subset of horses within the domestic equine population. These may be healthy horses that their owners can no longer afford to keep or feed; horses that are dangerous to handle and have injured (or are likely to injure) people; horses with an injury, lameness, or illness for which their owners are unwilling to unable to provide care; or horses that are no longer able to perform as their owner desires, whether that be for racing, pleasure riding, or some other purpose.
