AVMA Mentoring Center

December 29, 2006

Veterinarians understand the fundamental role mentoring plays in the ongoing success of their profession. Mentoring is a way to pass wisdom between generations of doctors to better serve their clients and the public.

To help facilitate these important interactions and encourage AVMA and SAVMA members to form mentoring relationships, the AVMA established the AVMA Mentoring Center in 2004. Unfortunately, participation in the Mentoring Center has not met expectations, so this particular tool was discontinued as of December 31, 2006.

The AVMA Member Services Committee understands that mentoring has and always will both formally and informally occur in the veterinary profession in spite of the discontinuation of the AVMA Mentoring Center. The Committee is currently reviewing and investigating existing AVMA programs and tools to determine how best to provide continuing mentoring opportunities to our membership.

To those of you who have participated in the Mentoring Center, thank you and we hope the experience has been beneficial. We look forward to the future and to providing a medium whereby AVMA members, SAVMA members, and the entire veterinary profession may network and enjoy a successful career in veterinary medicine.
