The AVMA encourages the United States Department of Agriculture, Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service, and other federal agencies such as the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the National Marine Fisheries Service, to fund activities that prevent the introduction of foreign aquatic animal pathogens and to develop programs for their control or eradication, similar to established control programs for terrestrial species.
