Steps to AVMA CVTEA Accreditation
An Overview

  1. Submit an application for initial accreditation or re-accreditation.

  2. Determine a site visit date.

  3. Submit a self-study report.

  4. Form an Evaluation Team and determine logistics of site visit.

  5. Conduct an Accreditation Site Visit.

  6. Provide the Program a draft Report of Evaluation for review and comment.

  7. Present a final draft Report of Evaluation to the Committee on Veterinary Technician Education and Activities (CVTEA) for consideration of accreditation.

  8. CVTEA to determine the accreditation status of the program based on majority vote of CVTEA members.

  9. The program is notified of the accreditation outcome to the Program immediately following the CVTEA meeting.

  10. Following a favorable accreditation decision, programs are placed on either an annual or biennial reporting schedule. Interim reports may be required at any time.

  11. The evaluation process is repeated at five-year intervals until a program has been fully accredited for two cycles, after which time site visits are conducted at six-year intervals.
