The AVMA House of Delegates, at the July 2009 annual meeting, elected Dr. Frederik Derksen, representing basic science; and Dr. D. Glen Esplin, representing non-private practice, non-academic veterinary medicine to the COE.

Dr. Derksen is a professor in the Department of Large Animal Clinical Sciences at Michigan State University. He earned a DVM degree from the University of Guelph, a PhD in Physiology from Michigan State University and is a diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine.

Dr. Esplin earned a DVM degree from Colorado State University, a PhD in Experimental Pathology from the University of Utah and is a diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Pathologists. He also served on the COE this past year when he finished an unexpired term.

In addition to these new members a new public member was elected to the Council at the COE's spring 2009 meeting. The new public member is Dr. Nicole Roberts. She holds a PhD in Education and is a faculty member at the Southern Illinois University School of Medicine.
