COE Standard Newsletter
Published by the AVMA Council on Education, the COE Standard newsletter keeps AVMA members and veterinary educators updated on COE activities; and helps explain and enhance understanding of veterinary school accreditation. Curious about what happens on a site visit? Perplexed by the term substantial compliance? Confused about outcomes assessment? This quarterly e-newsletter helps to clarify all that and more.
Here's a sampling of what's in store for you as a subscriber:
Why accreditation?
In its essence accreditation is about quality assurance and quality improvement. It is about providing students an opportunity to study and strive to become the best veterinarians, who will provide topnotch health care and service to the public. But there are many other benefits to accreditation, too – including increased prestige in the eyes of funders, government officials and potential students. Learn more...
What does "fully accredited" mean?
Colleges which meet all Standards of Accreditation are granted full accreditation for a period of no more than seven years, contingent upon satisfactory review by the COE of annual progress reports. It is possible that one or two of the eleven standards may not be fully met, but if the COE is convinced that student outcomes are only minimally affected and that student safety is not compromised, a College may still receive a classification of full accreditation, as long as the deficiencies are corrected within two years.
