Earthquake Preparedness: 2012 Great Central U.S. ShakeOut

Do you know what to do if an earthquake hits? Visit the Seven Steps to Earthquake Safety and the Earthquakes section of the AVMA's Emergency Preparedness and Response Guide to make sure you, your family, your practice, and your clients are prepared. Include your patients as well as your own animals in your emergency plans.

2012 marks the bicentennial year of the New Madrid earthquakes, a series of devastating earthquakes and aftershocks that affected several Midwestern states between December 16, 1811, and March 15, 1812.

The 2012 Great Central U.S. ShakeOut, a voluntary nationwide earthquake drill, will be held at 10:15 a.m. on February 7, 2012 to teach Americans what to do before, during, and after an earthquake.

The AVMA has registered to participate in the ShakeOut, and you can too at www.shakeout.org/centralus/register.

What can you do for the ShakeOut? To get some ideas or build upon the ones you already have, visit www.shakeout.org/centralus/howtoparticipate.

Visit http://www.shakeout.org/centralus for more information about the 2012 Great Central U.S. ShakeOut, including frequently asked questions and how you can register and participate.
