Insurance from the PLIT includes package liability policies, which cover property and general liability, as well as insurance for workers' compensation. The PLIT also offers flood insurance, policies for liability relevant to employment practices, homeowners and renters insurance, and other products.
Convention-goers who participate in a PLIT evaluation will receive a miniature version of the PLIT mascot, Risky the donkey, while supplies last. Participants also will be eligible to win a large stuffed version of Risky.
Visitors to the PLIT booth should ask for their free copy of "The Business Owner's Playbook" from the Hartford Financial Services Group. The playbook is a guide to protecting a business, growing assets, and planning for the future. The 40-page guide targets businesses that have 50 or fewer employees, with sections for emerging, growing, and transitioning companies.
Convention-goers can preview the new PLIT safety manual at the booth, where they can pick up an order form. The safety manual also is available for purchase by calling the PLIT at (800) 228-7548. The cost is $129 for the print version and CD or $59 for the CD alone. The PLIT designed the publication to guide policy-holders through the risk-management process.
The PLIT safety manual helps identify exposures, hazards, and losses; evaluate current controls; develop custom solutions; implement solutions; and measure results and evaluate solutions. Topics include hazard recognition and control, bloodborne pathogens, personal protective equipment, radiologic safety, animal restraint, and bite prevention. The publication explains how to develop an emergency action plan, or how to prepare for an inspection by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration.
Also available at the PLIT booth are order forms for free posters to promote veterinary safety. Posters address the need for staff rather than clients to handle pets during examinations, for clients to keep dogs on leashes and cats in carriers while in the waiting room, for everyone to be cautious in areas potentially exposed to radiation, and for pregnant women to be particularly cautious near anesthetic gases and sources of radiation. Many of the posters are available in Spanish. The PLIT will mail posters to veterinary clinics free of charge.![]()
