TV program covers convention news, topics of interest

The AVMA Convention News Network television program returns this year with stories on subjects ranging from Mike the Tiger at Louisiana State University to the changing demographics of the veterinary profession.

Today's feature story is "Katrina: Lessons Learned," a look at how the response to the plight of animals during emergencies has changed since the hurricane hit New Orleans in 2005. Other stories focus on the AVMA Veterinary Medical Assistance Teams, which treated animals during the disaster, and the American Veterinary Medical Foundation's Our Oath in Action voluntourism project to help refurbish animal shelters concurrent with the convention.

Dr. Kimberly May, assistant director of the AVMA Department of Professional and Public Affairs, said the daily news program includes a number of recurring segments. "Outside the Clinic" highlights nontraditional veterinary careers, whereas "My AVMA" focuses on AVMA services. "New Orleans Note" highlights the city's geography, food, and music—and the history of Mardi Gras. The program also offers interviews with convention speakers and details about special events.

A new 30-minute show appears each day, today through Tuesday, airing 24 hours a day on a continuous loop. The show broadcasts on televisions in the convention center and certain hotels.

Thill Media LLC and the AVMA Communications Division produce the news program for the AVMA with support from title sponsor Fort Dodge Animal Health and cosponsor Subaru of North America.
