Interstate Traveling Regulations for Pets

Before you pack up Rover's favorite toy for your family vacation, you will need to be aware of certain restrictions and/or regulations that may apply.

When traveling with your pets across state lines (and other countries) it might be a good idea to check out the U.S. State and Territory Animal Import Regulations web page maintained by the United States Department of Agriculture, Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (USDA,APHIS) Veterinary Services.

The site, http://www.aphis.usda.gov:80/vs/sregs/, has links to the latest regulations on interstate movement of animals, written and maintained by individual states.

The USDA/APHIS Veterinary Services also offers an up-to-date Voice Response Service (VRS) on a 24-hour basis, 365 days a year. Using a touch tone phone, call 800/545-USDA (8732) to connect with the service.

Once connected to VRS, press 2 for State Regulations.

You will be asked to press the two letters that identify the postal code for the state in which you are requesting information. For your convenience, we have listed these codes below:
