Poster Session – November 9, 2009
A poster session will be held in conjunction with the opening night's reception on November 9. Attendees of the AVMA/AAVMC Animal Welfare Symposium are encouraged to submit posters that convey information relevant to the themes of the meeting, including descriptions of animal welfare-focused educational programs, research projects, and advocacy initiatives.
The intent of the reception/poster session is to facilitate networking and to help share cutting-edge information with others interested in animal welfare education and research. This is an excellent opportunity to contact potential collaborators, students, supervisors, or volunteers who share your interest in understanding animal welfare and promoting animal well being.
Poster Guidelines
Posters must clearly relate to the main themes of animal welfare, veterinary science and education, research or advocacy. The poster should present material likely to be novel and of significant interest to the attendees of this meeting. Posters about effective advocacy approaches are welcomed, but not posters that are primarily focused on advocating particular animal welfare positions. Posters must not include any inflammatory or derogatory language.
Maximum poster size is 4 by 4 feet. Posters should be legible from a distance of several feet, with a minimum font size of 16 points. If you wish to attach handouts or mailing list sheets to the poster then its size will need to be reduced to allow for this, as table space will not be available. At least one of the poster's authors should be available to attend the reception/poster session to answer questions. The poster should contain an affiliation and contact method (e.g., an email or surface mail address) for the corresponding author.
Poster abstracts should be submitted to ekane@avma.org in a common file format such as .doc or .rtf or within the body of the email by September 1. The email subject heading should state "Poster" and "Education," "Research" or "Advocacy." The file name should include the surname of the corresponding author. As space is limited not all posters may be able to be accepted.
An acknowledgement of receipt will be sent within 24 hours and authors will be notified as to whether their poster has been accepted by September 15. For clarification or further information contact Dr. Emily Patterson-Kane at ekane@avma.org.
