The American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) and the Association of American Veterinary Medical Colleges (AAVMC) invite veterinarians, educators, researchers, students, and others interested in animal welfare education and research to attend this important Symposium.
Swimming With The Tide—Animal Welfare in Veterinary Medical Education and Research will provide an opportunity for us to learn from one another as we explore animal welfare as an evolving discipline and how to best educate veterinarians to be effective decision-makers and advocates.
"Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed, citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has."
— Margaret Mead
Progress in ensuring animal welfare depends on small discoveries flowing together to facilitate coordinated and practical large-scale actions. After many years, these tiny drops and ripples of scientific and social change have grown into whitecaps, and the field of animal welfare into an ocean. The goal of the AVMA/AAVMA Joint International Educational Symposium on Animal Welfare is to help each attendee learn to thrive within this swell of progress, swimming with the tide.
Agenda
The agenda of the AVMA/AAVMC Joint International Educational Symposium on Animal Welfare features two and a half days of top-notch education. Learn from speakers with internationally renowned reputations as they consider how frameworks for animal welfare decisions are created by science, ethics, societal norms and stakeholder engagement, and how to create educational and research environments that help veterinarians contribute to effective solutions to animal welfare problems.
The event also includes a poster session to facilitate networking and share cutting-edge information among attendees. This is an excellent opportunity to contact potential collaborators, students, supervisors, or volunteers who share your interest in understanding and promoting animal welfare.
"Love of animals is a universal impulse, a common ground on which all of us may meet. By loving and understanding animals, perhaps we humans shall come to understand each other."
— Louis J. Camuti, DVM
