Nominations due February 1, 2012
Charles River established this award to recognize distinguished contributions to laboratory animal science and to promote educational growth in that field. The donor has stipulated that recipients must be AVMA members currently engaged in that field. The Charles River Commitment to Humane Animal Research Through Excellence and Responsibility (CHARTER) Program will process nominations, and the AVMA Executive Board will make the final selection. The prize consists of a plaque and a $2,500 award.
Nomination and Selection Procedures
Nominations are processed by the CHARTER Program and should be sent by letter directly to the Program at 251 Ballardvale Street, Wilmington, MA 01887. In addition to a curriculum vitae with bibliography, please also provide in your cover letter a brief sketch of the nominee's professional background and a statement pertaining to the individual's qualifications for the award. Letters seconding, endorsing, or supporting nominations for awards will not be used in evaluating candidates. The CHARTER Program will forward the nominees to the AVMA Executive Board. It will review nominations and select the recipient at its spring meeting. The AVMA will notify the awardee immediately thereafter, and the winner will be honored at that year's AVMA Annual Convention. An awardee may not be selected in a given year if no nominee for that year meets the criteria for selection.
