H.R. 388/S. 197 Crane Conservation Act of 2009: The Crane Conservation Act of 2009 sets up a fund under the Multinational Species Conservation Fund to assist in the conservation of cranes by supporting and providing, through projects of persons and organizations with expertise in crane conservation, financial resources for the conservation programs of countries the activities of which directly or indirectly affect cranes and the ecosystems of cranes.
Status: H.R. 388 was introduced on 1/9/09 and was referred to the Committee on Natural Resources. On 4/21/09 the legislation was passed by the House and sent to the Committee on Environment and Public Works in the Senate. On 7/20/09, the bill passed out of Committee and was placed on the Senate Legislative Calendar.

H.R. 411/S. 529, Great Cats and Rare Canids of 2009: This bill assists in the conservation of rare felids and rare canids by supporting and providing financial resources for the conservation programs of nations within the range of rare felid and rare canid populations and projects of experts in the conservation of rare felid and rare canid populations.
Status: On April 21, 2009 the House passed H.R. 411 and the bill was sent to the Committee on Environment and Public Works in the Senate.

H.R. 669 The Nonnative Wildlife Invasion Prevention Act: H.R. 669 would establish a risk assessment process to prevent the introduction into, and establishment in, the United States of nonnative wildlife species that will cause or are likely to cause economic or environmental harm or harm to other animal species' health or human health. While the intent of H.R. 669 is consistent with AVMA Policy; this legislation as written will not achieve its intended purpose.
Status: H.R. 669 was introduced on 1/26/09 and was referred to the Committee on Natural Resources. On 7/23/09, a hearing was held in the Subcommittee on Insular Affairs, Oceans and Wildlife.
