AVMAPAC Launches New Competition; Donates Funds for Candidates' Re-Election

The AVMA's Political Action Committee (AVMAPAC) has launched a new fundraising campaign – a friendly competition where schools compete with other schools, and states with other states. Victorious states and schools will win contributions to their scholarship funds.
The financial clock began ticking on July 1 and will run through June 30, 2009. Any and all donations to the PAC during that time period will be attributed to the donor's home state and graduate school of record. Each month, the standings will be updated and posted both online and in The AVMA Advocate, so you can keep up with the ranking of your school and state.
When the competition comes to a close next June, winners will be determined and a $1000 contribution will be made to their respective scholarship funds. A formal announcement of the scholarships and accompanying accolades will be made at the AVMA Annual Convention in Seattle in July.
Small schools and states should fear not – the winners will be determined based on total contributions and on per capita contributions. There will be an aggregate winner and a per capita winner for the school and the state with the highest total in each category.
Where does AVMAPAC money go?
Having a voice on legislative issues in the federal arena is critical to the veterinary profession. The more issues that affect the veterinary profession, the larger our PAC needs to be in order to be effective.
Throughout a federal legislative session, which lasts two years, AVMAPAC has the opportunity to contribute to a number of campaigns. The AVMAPAC Policy Board makes decisions on to whom we contribute based on the following criteria:
Support of AVMA legislative agenda
Membership on House & Senate committees of interest to AVMA
Accessibility to AVMA members and staff
Recommendations from AVMA members and staff
Intangibles
