Officers

The officers of the Association include the president, president-elect, vice president, treasurer, immediate past president, executive board chair, executive board vice chair, the executive vice president, and the assistant executive vice president. Specific duties and responsibilities of the officers are detailed in the AVMA Bylaws (PDF).

The president, president-elect, and vice president must be voting members of the Association for at least ten years immediately prior to their election. All other officers must be voting members of the Association immediately prior to their election.

The president-elect, vice president, and when necessary, the president are elected at each annual session of the House of Delegates. The terms of the president, president-elect, and vice president commence at the first regular meeting of the Executive Board following the close of the annual session of the House of Delegates at which they were elected. The president-elect immediately and automatically succeeds to the office of president at the end of the term as president-elect. The president automatically succeeds to the office of immediate past president at the end of the term as President.

The executive vice president, assistant executive vice president, and treasurer are elected annually by the Executive Board. The treasurer can serve a maximum of six consecutive, one-year terms.
