Mission
Improving Animal and Human Health, Advancing the Veterinary Medical Profession
Purpose
The purpose of the Association is to advance the science and art of veterinary medicine, including its relationship to public health, biological science, and agriculture.
The American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA), established in 1863, represents more than 76,000 veterinarians working in private and corporate practice, government, industry, academia, and uniformed services. The AVMA acts as a collective voice for its membership and the profession.
The Executive Board of the AVMA is responsible for the administration of the association including organizational vision planning and coordination. The Strategic Planning Committee advises the Executive Board and is charged to foster an effective planning process.
Current AVMA Strategic Plan
In April 2008, the Executive Board approved the current Strategic Plan (PDF) that was developed with input from councils, committees, staff, and constituent and allied organizational representatives.
Strategic Planning Framework
In June 2004, the Executive Board approved adoption of a Strategic Planning Framework submitted by the Strategic Planning Committee. This framework outlined a four-phase planning process to strengthen the AVMA's capacity to set direction and achieve goals for critical issues facing the profession. |
