About AVMA Strategic Planning

June 2011

Mission

The mission of the Association is to improve animal and human health and to advance the veterinary medical profession.

Purpose

The purpose of the Association is to advance the science and art of veterinary medicine, including its relationship to public health, biological science, and agriculture.

The American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA), established in 1863, represents more than 81,500 veterinarians working in private and corporate practice, government, industry, academia, and uniformed services. The AVMA acts as a collective voice for its membership and the profession.

New AVMA Strategic Plan 2012-2015

In June 2011, the Executive Board adopted a new Strategic Plan 2012 that was developed in collaboration with the House of Delegates, councils, committees, task forces, members, and staff.

2008-2011 AVMA Strategic Plan

In April 2008, the Executive Board approved the Strategic Plan that was developed with input from councils, committees, members, staff, and constituent and allied organizational representatives.

Strategic Planning Framework

In June 2004, the Executive Board approved adoption of a Strategic Planning Framework submitted by the Strategic Planning Committee. This framework outlined a four-phase planning process to strengthen the AVMA's capacity to set direction and achieve goals for critical issues facing the profession.
