LARRY KORNEGAY, DVM

District VIII AVMA Executive Board Representative


 


Dr. Larry Kornegay graduated from Texas A&M University College of Veterinary Medicine in 1971. He has practiced companion animal veterinary medicine in Houston and has been active in organized veterinary medicine for these 36 years.

He served as president of the Harris County Veterinary Medical Association in 1981 and as president of the Texas Veterinary Medical Association in 1991.

Dr. Kornegay was designated an "Outstanding Alumnus" of the Texas A&M University College of Veterinary Medicine in 2005. He has been the recipient of three Texas VMA "President's Awards" in 1992, 1993 and 2000.

He is the president of the North Harris County Veterinary Emergency Clinic and Referral Center.

Dr. Kornegay's American Veterinary Medical Association activities over the past 10 years include serving as Chair of Group One of AVMA OATF (Organizational Audit Task Force) in 1998-1999. He served a term as an AVMA PLIT (Professional Liability Insurance Trustee) in 1999-2003.

Dr. Kornegay began his tenure on the AVMA Executive Board in 2003 as the District VIII Director representing Arkansas, Louisiana and Texas. Dr. Kornegay has served as Executive Board Liaison to the following AVMA entities: Council on Communications, Committee on Human-Animal Bond, Strategic Planning Committee, Committee on Veterinary Technician Education and Activities, American Board of Veterinary Specialties, Member Services Committee and Council on Veterinary Service.

In 2005 and 2006, Dr. Kornegay served as Chair of the AVMA Diversity Task Force. He served as Chair of the Executive Vice President Search Committee in 2006-2007 and currently is Chair of the AVMA Insurance Liaison Committee and the AVMA/NAVTA (National Association of Veterinary Technicians in America) Liaison Committee.

He also currently serves as a Director of the American Veterinary Medical Foundation and is a member of the AVMA Legislative Advisory Committee and the AVMA Council on Education Member Selection Task Force.
