LARRY CORRY, DVM

AVMA President

Dr. Larry Corry received his veterinary medical degree from the University of Georgia, in Athens, Georgia in 1966. Following graduation he spent two years in the U.S. Air Force Veterinary Corps and during that time was stationed in Wichita Falls, Texas Tampa, Florida, with some temporary duty in Turkey. A small animal practitioner, Dr. Corry has owned five hospitals in the Atlanta area. Currently he owns two hospitals and was a previous shareholder and served on the Board of Directors and Building Committee of three emergency clinics.

Upon entering practice, Dr. Corry became very active in state and local veterinary organizations. Areas of participation in the Georgia Veterinary Medical Association (GVMA) included District Director, Treasurer, President, and Chairman of the Long Range Planning Committee. He was part of the leadership team that envisioned and purchased the first facility to house GVMA offices. Civic participation includes Optimist Club membership and service as their Treasurer, YMCA involvement included coaching youth basketball, baseball, and softball teams, and in the Indian Guide Program, he also served seven years as a Boy Scout scout master.

Within the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA), Dr. Corry served 15 years in the House as either a delegate or alternate delegate from Georgia, six years on the House Advisory Committee two years on the Political Action Committee, and was on the Foundation Board for several years as a director on the AVMF. Dr. Corry served as a consultant to the Professional Examination Service and as a member of the AVMA/GVMA inspection team for Fort Valley State Veterinary Technician Program. He also served on the Executive Board for 6 years as a District Director for GA, FL, and Puerto Rico, serving the last year as Chair. During 2008-2009 Dr. Corry served as President-Elect of the AVMA. He was installed in July, 2009 as President of the AVMA for 2009-2010.

Honors include University of Georgia Veterinary Alumnus of the Year, University of Georgia Distinguished Service Award, and Georgia Veterinary Medical Association's Veterinarian of the Year.

Dr. Corry is a member of the Presbyterian Church of the Resurrection in Conyers, Georgia. Along the way he chaired two pastor search committees and chaired the building committee for a new church.

He is married to Carleen Kirby Corry and they have four children: Sandy – son-in-law, Ron Gerald, Randall, Geoffrey – daughter-in-law, Shay, and Tara – son-in-law, Jeff Bubenheim, as well as five grandchildren, Rachel, Anna, Lily, Savannah, and Bodie with a sixth one on the way.

Carleen has served as AVMA Auxiliary President 2007-2008 as well as serving in other positions within the Auxiliary.

Dr. Corry's hobbies include golfing, fishing, boating, and spending time at their cabin in the North Carolina mountains. He and Carleen also love to travel and spend time with their family.
