Judicial Council — Entity description
|
The Judicial Council
a) The Judicial Council shall consist of five active or honor roll members elected by the House of Delegates for terms of six years.
b) The Judicial Council shall be the judicial branch of the Association and shall:
i) Decide all matters concerning members as provided in Article I, Section 8, of these Bylaws.
ii) Have jurisdiction on all questions of veterinary medical ethics and the interpretation of the Constitution, Bylaws, and rules of the Association.
iii) Investigate general professional conditions and all matters pertaining to the relations of veterinarians to one another or to the public, and make such recommendations to the House of Delegates or the organizations represented in the House as it deems necessary.

iv) Have authority to request the president of the Association to appoint investigating juries to which it can refer complaints or evidence of unethical conduct which in its judgment are of a serious and substantial nature. Such investigating juries, if probable cause for action can be shown, may file complaints under the provisions of the established Rules of Disciplinary Procedures of AVMA.
