Political Action Committee Policy Board
Created by the House of Delegates when the proposed PAC Constitution was approved at the 1978 AVMA Annual Meeting.
Charge/Objective
In compliance with the Federal Election Campaign Act, to raise funds for the purpose of making contributions to the campaigns of candidates for federal public office.
The Executive Board confirmed, at its fall 1978 meeting, that the PAC Policy Board is responsible for general supervision and control of the PAC--that all PAC decisions and activities shall be free and independent of direction from the AVMA Executive Board.
To educate the general membership of the AVMA and to promote and encourage an understanding of the political/legislative process.
Membership, Method of Appointment, and Representation
The PAC Constitution provides that the Executive Board and the House Advisory Committee will name three members each to the PAC Policy Board. Of those appointed by the Executive Board and the House Advisory Committee, one must reside in each of the three convention location zones.
Appointments are for two-year terms ending at the close of the annual AVMA meeting, or when a successor is elected, with no one to serve more than three full terms or six years during his or her lifetime. The six-year limitation was established in 1980.
Interim PAC members are appointed by the PAC Board.
