How to join the AVMA
 

Join an organization that is committed to develop and maintain the highest standards of professional competence and conduct, encourage improvement of professional and postdoctoral veterinary medical education; inform the public about matters of animal and public health; work with other health-related professional organizations on matters of mutual and public concern; support research in the continuing effort to improve animal and human health; promote and enhance service to clients, animal patients, and the general public; recognize and encourage outstanding accomplishments by veterinarians; keep its members informed about current activities and concerns of the profession through its journals; provide group benefits to its members.

If you would like to become a member of the AVMA, please select and print a copy of the appropriate application form listed below. When you have completed filling out the information requested, mail or fax the application and your payment, along with any additional required information to:

Continuous Years of AVMA Membership - Members who maintain continuous AVMA membership throughout their careers can gain the benefit of reduced dues or dues exemption once they retire or reach honor-roll status. Retired members are only required to pay half-dues. They are those members who a) have completed 35 years as a member of the Association and have retired, or b) have reached 65 years of age, retired, and have been a member of the Association continuously since graduation from veterinary college. Honor Roll members are exempt from dues payment. They are those who a) have reached the age of 70 years and have maintained membership in the Association for a period of 40 years, or b) have reached the age of 72 and have maintained continuous AVMA membership since graduation from a college of veterinary medicine.

Application for Voting Membership (PDF)
If you are a veterinarian and would like to join the AVMA, you may qualify for Voting Membership. If you graduated within the last two years, you may even qualify for reduced dues! Call 1(800)248-2862 ext, 6631 to find out. Voting member applications require certification that you are a member in good standing of an organization in the AVMA House of Delegates, or the endorsement of two active AVMA members. Application for Associate Membership (PDF)
If you are a veterinarian and a legal resident of a country other than the United States, you may qualify for Associate Membership. Associate Member applications must include certification that you are a member in good standing of the national veterinary medical association of your home country, or the endorsement of two active AVMA members. Application for Affiliate Membership (PDF)
If you are a teacher of veterinary medicine or of the sciences allied to veterinary medicine, or engaged in veterinary research, and are a citizen of the US or Canada, you may qualify to apply for Affiliate Membership. See application for more information.
