Hurricane Recovery
Temporary Employment, Housing

September 16, 2005

If you or your staff have been displaced by Hurricane Katrina, or if you have a position or housing for those who have been displaced, the AVMA is building a resource center to help. E-mail us at vetcareers@avma.org or call Cindy Coy at 1-800-248-2862 ext 6683 and we will contact you with more information as soon as it is available.

After September 20, 2005 you will be able to place your information and resume directly into the Veterinary Career Center at www.avma.org/vcc/. You will have the opportunity to tag your resume as being a displaced veterinary individual as well as search for only Hurricane Katrina Relief Jobs. Potential employers will be able to post temporary positions for Hurricane Katrina Relief Jobs as well as tag permanent positions with preference for displaced veterinary individuals.

Note: These listings are free of charge and are only for TEMPORARY EMPLOYMENT! We ask you to not abuse this good will effort for permanent positions/employment. If you are looking for a permanent employee, please utilize the Veterinary Career Center at www.avma.org/vcc/.

Please be aware that your state or province may have licensure restrictions for the displaced veterinarians or veterinary technicians, so please check with your state veterinary medical board to assure of what is required for licensure in your state. Contact information can be located on pages 363-384 of the 2005 AVMA Directory or you may go online at www.aavsb.org to look up this information. The American Association of Veterinary State Boards is waiving fees for score reporting to any displaced veterinarian seeking licensure in another state. Some of the state licensing boards have made special provisions for licensure of displaced veterinarians. Click here to view more licensure information.
